Produce creative works
Produce practice-based creative works from a critically engaged personal standpoint informed by contemporary and historic contexts.

Apply arts and design skills
Apply broad knowledge and practical and conceptual skills in the production of arts, craft and/or design work.

Respond to creative briefs
Use investigative tools with creative processes, methods, and technologies to develop responses to a brief and solve problems.
What You're Signing Up For
Through a series of real-world and in-house projects across creative disciplines like paint, sculpture, print, photography, graphic design, and 3D design, this diploma provides the skills, knowledge and attributes to develop as a practicing creative. Graduates can produce practice-based creative works, apply broad arts and design skills, and use research and professional practices relevant to creative industries. Completion of this qualification allows direct entry into the second year of the Bachelor of Creative Practice.

- Project-based learning in creative disciplines
- Drawing technology
- Graphic design using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, After-Effects)
- 3D Design and Sculpture with wood, clay, metal, plastics
- Spatial, Object, and Architectural Design
- Printmaking including silkscreen and press printing
- Painting in acrylics, oils, and new media
- Contemporary and historic arts contexts
- Creative research and investigation
- Critique and presentation skills
- Professional practices for creative industries
What you need to know first
University Entrance (NZQA) or evidence of capability to complete the programme as assessed by the Discipline Leader
Applicants over 20 years may be admitted based on demonstrated ability
Attendance at interview with portfolio and handwritten letter of application
English language proficiency (IELTS 6.0 no band less than 5.5 or equivalent); New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 4) also accepted
