What You're Signing Up For
The Master of Teaching and Learning at the University of Waikato is an intensive, research-informed teaching qualification designed to prepare students to become registered teachers in primary or secondary education. Participants will develop critical understanding of research-based pedagogical approaches, learning theory, inquiry skills, and subject content knowledge. The course includes 80 days of classroom experience and focuses on teaching diverse learners, curriculum design, and evidence-based inquiry. Graduates are equipped for teaching and leadership roles in education.

What you need to know first
Bachelor's degree at NZQF Level 7 or recognised equivalent with a B/B+ average
Academic background suitable for teaching (especially for secondary endorsement: curriculum knowledge at Level 5–7 in relevant subjects)
Interview and selection process
Personal qualities, communication skills, background experiences, and literacy/numeracy assessment
Meet general admission requirements of the University
Additional: For primary specialisation, passing LNAAT mathematical competency (see timing requirements by year of enrollment)
