The Master of Teaching and Learning is a one-year, full-time programme for graduates who aspire to become primary or secondary school teachers. The degree provides intensive research-based knowledge, inquiry skills, and professional practice experience in real schools. Offered in primary or secondary endorsements, graduates meet Matatū Aotearoa | Teaching Council of New Zealand standards, enabling them to apply for teacher registration. The programme emphasises contemporary educational theory, digital pedagogies, inclusion of diverse learners, and practical placements in schools.

What you need to know first
A bachelor's or higher degree in a relevant discipline with a B Grade Point Average or better
Approval of successful prior academic performance for postgraduate study
Demonstrated English language proficiency
Satisfy literacy and numeracy competence per the Teaching Council requirements
Satisfy requirements of the Children’s Act 2014 (e.g., police vetting)
For secondary endorsement: academic background relevant to NZ secondary curriculum
For primary endorsement: demonstration of mathematics capability
