Students will develop professional fluency and confidence in using te reo Māori in classroom settings, through immersive study and assessment in the language.

Learners will gain expertise in planning and delivering lessons for bilingual and second language learners, drawing on both local and international models.

The Master of Hōaka Pounamu equips teachers, education leaders, and researchers with enhanced knowledge and practice in te reo Māori and language immersion pedagogy. It combines advanced language training, curriculum development, immersive learning experiences, and assessment strategies aimed at revitalising te reo Māori in Aotearoa classrooms. The degree includes compulsory and elective courses, noho marae, and full-immersion classes, supporting professional advancement in mainstream, bilingual, and immersion education.
