What You're Signing Up For

The New Zealand Certificate in Education Support and Care (Teacher Aiding) (Level 3) prepares you for entry-level roles supporting learners and teachers in a variety of education contexts. This 40-credit, distance-delivered certificate includes theoretical study and a compulsory practicum, ensuring you gain hands-on experience in education support. You'll learn about professional behaviours, health and safety, inclusive practice, human development, communication, and learner resource production, with a focus on diverse and inclusive educational environments.

  • Professional behaviour and health & safety in educational contexts
  • Effective communication with learners, whanau, and colleagues
  • Principles and applications of inclusive practice
  • Basic knowledge of learning and human development
  • Supporting students with their learning
  • Resource production in education support
  • Practicum involving 120 hours of supervised teaching support

What you need to know first

Completion of Placement & Supervisor Confirmation Form (practicum venue and supervisor required)

Minimum 16 years of age and NCEA Level 2 (for school leavers)

For mature applicants (20+): Demonstrated ability to succeed via prior study or sector employment

Personal commitment and belief in ability to succeed
