What You're Signing Up For

The NZ Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 5) at EIT is a field-based, one year qualification designed for those wishing to pursue a pathway in early childhood education. With a balance of theory, research, and practical work, students will learn in campus classes and in a licensed early childhood education setting. The diploma provides foundational skills for those aiming to become non-registered or home-based early childhood educators, or as a pathway to further degree-level study and teacher registration.

What you need to know first

NCEA Level 3 or equivalent; OR New Zealand Certificate in Early Childhood Education [Level 4]; OR New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation [Level 4]

Applicants under 20 without NCEA Level 3 may be considered on a case-by-case basis

Applicants over 20 must demonstrate readiness for tertiary study and literacy/numeracy competence equivalent to NCEA Level 3

All applicants must be over 17 at the academic year's start

CV showing background, commitment to education of mokopuna, and experience with children required

Authorisation for NZ Police check

Must be working in a licensed early childhood setting for at least 12 hours per week during study

Support from a qualified mentor teacher required

Compliance with Children’s Act (2014)

Internal selection process including interviews and literacy assessment
