What You're Signing Up For
The Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) is a field-based degree enabling students to gain a professional early childhood teaching qualification. The programme combines theoretical study on campus with hands-on experience in early childhood settings, helping students develop knowledge, skills, and practical expertise to teach and care for infants, toddlers, and young children. Graduates may apply for teacher registration and provisionally certificated ECE teacher status with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand, and will be equipped for further postgraduate study.

What you need to know first
University Entrance (as defined by the NZQA), or equivalent for international applicants not schooled in New Zealand.
Applicants under 20 without University Entrance may be considered under discretionary entry policy.
Applicants 20+ need evidence of potential to succeed at degree level, including literacy and numeracy competence equivalent to University Entrance.
Applicants must be 17+ at the start of the academic year.
Two references (using prescribed forms) from non-relatives, with at least one from someone who has observed the applicant working with children.
Police vetting in accordance with the Children’s Act 2014.
Declaration of good health.
CV detailing educational background, evidence of commitment to care and education of children, experience with children, and openness to learning.
Pass literacy and numeracy competency assessments.
Participation in group and individual interviews.
Must be working (employed or volunteer) a minimum of 12 hours per week in a licensed early childhood setting during study.
Supported by a qualified, registered mentor teacher.
English language fluency: IELTS Academic 7.0 in all bands, or equivalent (for non-EU applicants where applicable).
