What You're Signing Up For

The Exercise Science and Outdoor Education Level 3 programme provides students with hands-on experience and knowledge in areas such as sports, coaching, outdoor recreation, and personal fitness. Students will participate in diverse activities ranging from personal training to mountain biking and rock climbing, while also building transferable skills such as teamwork, communication, risk management, and kaitiakitanga. The course is designed for secondary students and allows credits to count toward NCEA Levels 1-3. It prepares learners for career pathways in sport science, exercise, and outdoor recreation, and enables progression to Level 4 study.

  • Develop and implement an exercise plan for personal physical fitness
  • Human body movement and stretching during exercise
  • Mountain biking skills on grade 3 terrain
  • Operate and understand kaitiakitanga in outdoor recreation
  • Top rope rock climbing and belaying skills
  • Crossing rivers safely
  • Industry site visits
  • Coaching and umpiring
  • Team building, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Risk management in outdoor and sports settings
