What You're Signing Up For

The New Zealand Certificate in Intermediate Snowschool Instruction (Applied) (Level 5) equips current snowschool instructors to teach intermediate-level skills in ski, snowboard, telemark, or cross-country skiing. Developed in conjunction with the New Zealand Snowsports Instructors Alliance (NZSIA), this qualification covers planning, delivering, and evaluating lessons, as well as health and safety, customer service, time management, and business development. Learners complete core modules and can specialise through elective modules in various disciplines or business development. Assessment is workplace-based and the programme is available only through specific employers.

  • Elective: Safely teaching advanced parallel turns (Ski)
  • Elective: Safely teaching carving, freestyle, and off-piste (Snowboard)
  • Elective: Safely teaching linked parallel telemark turns (Telemark)
  • Elective: Safely teaching classic and skate technique (Cross-Country Skiing)
  • Business Development elective: Creating, executing and evaluating a business plan
  • Business Development elective: Developing and managing a marketing strategy
