What You're Signing Up For
The New Zealand Certificate in Freestyle Group Exercise (Level 4) equips individuals to create and deliver safe, effective, and engaging group fitness classes with a specialisation in an elective area. The 60-credit program, designed for completion within 8 to 12 months, involves workplace-based training and online assessments. Students learn to choreograph, deliver, and adapt group exercise for a range of fitness types and abilities, enhance participant wellbeing, and gain knowledge in business skills, anatomy, physiology, and cultural integration for the fitness sector. Graduates are eligible to register with the New Zealand Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at the Group Exercise Own Choreography level.

- Choreographing, delivering and adapting safe and effective group exercise classes
- Specialising in electives: Step, Aquafitness, Indoor Cycling, Free Weights, Cardio Martial Fit, Circuit, Group Fitness Dance, Mind and Body, Core Conditioning with Equipment
- Encouraging health and wellbeing in participants
- Business skills for exercise professionals
- Anatomy and physiology relevant to exercise
- Integrating culturally appropriate values and processes
What you need to know first
Must be working in a paid, self-employed or volunteer role within an exercise facility or organisation, or have regular and consistent shifts.
