What You're Signing Up For

This programme is designed for people who instruct cyclists—helping them develop the confidence and skills to cycle safely. Completion of the New Zealand Certificate in Cycle Skills Instruction enables graduates to plan and conduct cycle skills training sessions, apply safety principles, and deliver inclusive training. Choose an elective in beginner, intermediate, or advanced road cycling skills to specialize your expertise. Assessments are completed online, with training and observation in the workplace.

Course Content

  • Planning, conducting and reviewing cycle skills training sessions for individuals and groups, tailored to participants' abilities
  • Applying hazard identification and risk management principles for cycle skills training
  • Running inclusive cycle skills training sessions
  • Elective: Beginner Skills—Instructing participants in balance and basic bike control for traffic-free environments
  • Elective: Intermediate Skills—Instructing participants for confident riding on local roads (required before Advanced Skills)
  • Elective: Advanced Skills—Instructing participants for confident riding on the full range of roads

What you need to know first

Must be working as a cycle skills instructor (paid, self-employed, or regular volunteer)

To enrol in Advanced Skills, must first complete Intermediate Skills elective
