What You're Signing Up For
The New Zealand Certificate in Sport Coaching (Level 3) (Sports Training and Development) is designed for those wishing to pursue development in sports coaching, either as entry-level or volunteer coaches. The programme provides foundational theory and applied skills in coaching, exercise prescription, sports conditioning, nutrition, and injury prevention, and equips graduates for community and school sport coaching or as a platform for further study.

- Individual and group characteristics and needs in coaching

- Referral to allied health professionals
- Planning and implementing conditioning programmes for selected sports
- Reviewing and modifying training programmes
What you need to know first
Minimum age 17 years and NCEA Level 2 (for school leavers)
Mature applicants (20+) may be admitted based on related work experience or prior study
Access to a sports team or group (3+ people) for practical coaching components
Recommended: First Aid training
If working with under-18s, a police safety check as required by the (Vulnerable) Children's Act 2014
