Core skills this course teaches

Explain human anatomy and physiology in relation to exercise programmes
Describe and apply basic concepts of human anatomy and physiology for designing safe and effective exercise regimes.

Adapt and deliver exercise programmes
Assess fitness levels and adapt suitable exercise programmes to meet individual needs and fitness goals, using a Māori Health Model for inclusivity.

Advise on nutrition and healthy lifestyle
Provide fundamental nutrition advice and support lifestyle behaviour change to facilitate healthy exercise habits for diverse individuals.
What You're Signing Up For
New Zealand Certificate in Exercise (Level 4) and New Zealand Certificate in Freestyle Group Exercise (Level 4) prepares you for a career as an exercise professional. You will learn to teach exercise movements, understand human anatomy and physiology, and apply behavioural change for client results. The programme features practical learning in a gym setting and real-world industry work experience. Graduates are eligible to register as Gym Instructors with REPs NZ and may continue study to become Personal Trainers.

What you need to know first
40 credits at NCEA Level 1 or above, including 10 Literacy credits and 10 Numeracy credits, or
New Zealand Certificate in Sport, Recreation and Exercise (Multi-sector) (Level 3), or
A relevant NZQF Level 2 qualification, or
A recognised equivalent qualification.
Special admission for applicants 20 years old or over without entry requirements.
Discretionary admission possible for applicants under 20 without entry requirements.
English language requirements: NZ University Entrance or IELTS 5.5 (no band below 5.0), or acceptable alternative evidence.
Police vetting may be required for some placements.
