Taught by professionals, it prepares graduates for supervisory roles across the avalanche risk management sector, including snowsport tourism, ski-field operations, guiding, and road operations. The blended learning approach ensures flexibility, supporting study around work commitments, with practical skills reinforced through mentored logbooks and field assessments.

- Decision Making and Operational Performance (theory)
- Terrain and Snowpack Theory (theory)
- Applied Avalanche Studies (practical recorded mentored feedback)
- Field Training (theory and six-day practical block course)
- Integrated Practical Application (seven-day final practical block course)
- Online teaching and learning with exercises and formative assessment
- Reflective logbook with operational and mentored feedback
- Practical (field) assessments, written assignments, presentations, written exams
What you need to know first
New Zealand Certificate in Avalanche Risk Management (Level 5) or equivalent
Desirable: Evidence of 100 days using ARM Level 5 skills, preferably in an operational and mentored environment (work experience)
