What You're Signing Up For
The NZ Certificate in Sport, Recreation & Exercise (Multi-sector) (Level 3) is designed for individuals seeking activities-oriented roles or to begin studies in sport, recreation or health sciences. Students gain ethical, professional and technical skills in gym and recreational settings, learn to identify hazards, understand wellbeing benefits, plan and run community sports events, and communicate effectively across diverse groups. Completion allows work in various support roles such as exercise assistant and school sport coordinator.

- Basic exercise activities and technical knowledge
- Regular physical training and activities
- Identification and management of risks, safety hazards, and ethical challenges in sport and recreation
- Health and wellbeing benefits of physical activities
- Planning and running sports or community events
- Communication with diverse people in sport and recreation contexts
- 30 hours of work placement
What you need to know first
Aged 16 or older
Recommended literacy and numeracy for NCEA Level 1 or equivalent
Physically able to cope with the demands of sport, recreation and exercise sectors
Not available for international students
