A guide to the start of your journey into the world of sport and recreation management, you’ll be introduced to the concepts, organisations and frameworks within the sector. The course covers roles of various sectors in sport and recreation provision, historical development in Aotearoa-New Zealand, key concepts like leisure and ethnicity, academic referencing, and cultural, gender, equity and bicultural issues relevant to sport and recreation.

  • Roles of the individual, public sector, not for profit sector, and commercial sector in sport and recreation provision
  • Historical development of sport and recreation in Aotearoa-New Zealand
  • Concepts of sport, recreation, leisure, gender, race and ethnicity applied to New Zealand context
  • APA referencing system for academic work
  • Gender, ethnicity, and equity issues in sport and recreation
  • Cultural and historical issues including bicultural aspects relating to sport and recreation in Aotearoa-New Zealand
