What You're Signing Up For

The NZ Certificate in Sport Coaching (Level 3) provides you with the knowledge and skills to coach entry-level participants across various sports. You will learn to create safe and enjoyable environments, model skills, apply group management, support physical wellbeing, and give constructive feedback. The course includes practical coaching experience (minimum 100 hours) and prepares you for employment as an entry-level coach or further study in sport, recreation, and exercise.

Course Content

  • Creating supportive sport coaching environments
  • Positive sideline behaviours for participant safety
  • Modelling simple skills and coaching principles
  • Group management techniques for performance
  • Injury prevention and physical preparation (warm up, cool down)
  • Giving constructive and positive performance feedback
  • Practical coaching experience (at least 100 hours while enrolled)

What you need to know first

Evidence of literacy and numeracy sufficient to study at this level and interpret/apply health and safety requirements

LNAAT or similar assessment may be required

Applicants under 20 years not meeting entry may be considered by exception

English language requirements: NZCEL Level 3 (any endorsement), IELTS Academic 5.0 (no band less than 5.0), or accepted equivalent
