What You're Signing Up For

This NZQA Level 1 certificate provides young people (16–19 years) who have not yet achieved a tertiary qualification with core capabilities in confidence, basic knowledge and skills, literacy, and numeracy, preparing them for further study at Level 2 or 3 and for entry-level roles. The course integrates personal wellbeing, workplace skills, communication, budgeting, leadership, Māori values, and teamwork. It is fully-funded and delivered at Mangere and Henderson campuses.

Course Content

  • Hauora: Māori philosophy of health and wellbeing, personal wellbeing plan, employability and study skills, interview and CV writing, strategies for healthy living, budgeting, teamwork.
  • Manaakitanga: Workplace respect, care, consideration, creating a positive work environment.
  • Te Ao Matauranga and Matauranga Māori: Critical thinking, time management, internet use, community agencies, cyber-bullying awareness, whakapapa.
  • Rangatiratanga: Leadership development, workplace communication, personal career goals, Te Tiriti O Waitangi, powhiri protocols.

What you need to know first

Students must be at least 15 years old with MOE exemption before the programme, or 16–19 years of age.

Not enrolled in secondary school.

New Zealand resident or citizen (not open to international students).

Able to demonstrate a positive attitude and commitment to complete the programme.

Must not have achieved a tertiary qualification on the NZQF.
