What You're Signing Up For

The NZ Certificate in Foundation Skills (Level 2) Retail Pathway provides learners with foundational skills in customer service, sales, retail operations, financial management, marketing, merchandising, and stock control. Designed for students aged 16-24 under Youth Guarantee, this 18-week programme prepares graduates for entry-level retail positions or further Level 3 study in various pathways. Delivery is blended with tutor-led classes and online learning via Canvas LMS, supported by a learner success team.

Course Content

  • Customer Service: Techniques for providing excellent service, handling complaints, and creating a positive shopping experience.
  • Sales Strategies: Methods for effectively selling products, upselling, and cross-selling to increase revenue.
  • Retail Operations: Understanding day-to-day retail store operations including inventory management, store layout, and visual merchandising.
  • Financial Management: Basics of budgeting, managing expenses, and analysing sales data for informed decision making.
  • Marketing and Merchandising: Strategies for product promotion, managing displays, and using marketing tools to attract customers.
  • Stock Control: Managing inbound stock, stock-taking, and forecasting.

Students must be 16 - 24 years of age eligible under Youth Guarantee

Sufficient English language competence to undertake programmes taught and assessed in English
