The Master of Disaster Risk Management and Development gives students advanced knowledge to reduce disaster risks, build community resilience, and manage disaster responses. The programme interweaves themes of sustainable development, environmental change, communications, and culturally appropriate approaches to disaster risk management. It suits those passionate about humanitarian response, sustainable development, or already working in the field and seeking a tertiary qualification. The flexible learning approach combines on-campus block courses and online study, culminating in either a thesis, dissertation, or practice project.

What you need to know first

Bachelor’s degree with a B- grade or higher in courses at a level 7 or equivalent

In exceptional circumstances, appropriate combination of academic and professional experience

Evidence of ability to study at postgraduate level

Evidence of current professional practice might be required

Completion of relevant prerequisite courses as specified by the Board of Studies (if applicable)

English language proficiency: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, with no band less than 6.0
