What You're Signing Up For
The New Zealand Diploma in Music (Level 5) prepares students for a career in the music industry as performers. Students will develop and enhance their music performance and production skills, including music theory, composition, song writing, recording, proficiency with instruments or voice, and understanding of the music industry. Graduates will be equipped with the theoretical and practical skills needed to perform professionally or progress to higher level music study.

- Music Theory and Aural
- Music Technology (sound reinforcement, recording systems, music computer applications)
- Contemporary Composition Studies (composition, arranging, production and notation software)
- Practical Studies 1 (instrumental/vocal performance, reading notation, live concerts)
- Practical Studies 2 (genre development, performance, technical skills, musicianship, score writing)
- Contextual Studies (academic writing, history and technology in popular music, socio-cultural contexts)
- Music and Audio Industry Studies (overview of industry roles, societies, business management, marketing and promotion)
What you need to know first
Live audition or high-quality audition video
School leavers: University Entrance - NCEA Level 3 with three subjects (14 credits each in approved subjects), Literacy (10 credits at Level 2 or above - 5 in reading, 5 in writing), Numeracy (10 credits at Level 1 or above)
Mature applicants: at least 20 years old and evidence of aptitude or appropriate work/other experience
Special admission: at discretion, based on evidence of ability to succeed
