What You're Signing Up For

STCW-10 Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers is an internationally recognised and Maritime New Zealand accredited certification course designed for individuals seeking to work in the commercial maritime industry. It covers essential international safety requirements through five key competency areas: Basic Firefighting, Elementary First Aid, Personal Safety and Social Responsibility, Personal Survival, and Security Awareness. Each topic awards a relevant certificate of competency upon successful completion. The course can be taken in full or individual modules and includes refresher training options for existing certificate holders. The course is typically delivered full-time over one week or part-time, with intakes starting multiple times per year at Toi Ohomai's Tauranga campus.

  • STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (includes compulsory online component and half day on-campus)

  • Refresher Training for Personal Survival and Basic Firefighting

What you need to know first

Must be fit and capable of sea survival and firefighting training

Swimming proficiency including swimming with and without lifejacket, and treading water wearing clothing

Provide medical declaration and valid medical certificate (Maritime NZ Seafarers Medical or equivalent)

Refresher training applicants must provide company letter confirming active participation in mandatory drills and seagoing service requirements
