This one-year Level 4 course prepares you to become a fully qualified automotive engineer. You will learn to diagnose car problems, service and repair vehicles, and keep pace with the latest automotive technologies including new generation hi-tech, hi-spec vehicles. Training options include starting a full-time managed apprenticeship with an employer or beginning study on campus with hands-on workshop experience followed by a managed apprenticeship. The course includes online assignments demonstrating your practical learning. Upon successful completion, you will be awarded the New Zealand Certificate in Light Automotive Engineering (Level 4). The course is offered at Rotorua (Mokoia Campus) and Tauranga (Windermere Campus) starting 23 Feb 2026. Part-time study is available. Total credits: 200. Entry requires a Level 3 qualification in Automotive Engineering or equivalent skills and knowledge, employment during apprenticeship, and English language proficiency. Scholarships and StudyLink assistance are available.
