This NZTA-approved short course provides essential knowledge and skills to lawfully, safely and efficiently transport Dangerous Goods by road. The programme is designed for current or prospective drivers and loaders in the road transport industry who need to understand legal responsibilities, safety procedures, handling requirements, and emergency protocols for dangerous goods transport. Workshops support online learning, and successful completion enables participants to gain the 'D' (Dangerous Goods) licence endorsement.
Course Content
- Driver and loader responsibilities for Dangerous Goods transport
- Documentation requirements for Dangerous Goods
- Requirements for packaging, including DGLQ, consumer commodities, small and excepted packages
- Segregation and placarding requirements
- Actions and considerations in case of incident or emergency
What you need to know first
Minimum age: 16 years
Basic ability in reading, writing, and communicating in English
Must be physically able to complete programme outcomes
NZ Class 1 restricted driver licence required
For ESL applicants: IELTS 5.5 with no band lower than 5 or equivalent
