Demonstrate proficiency in using survival equipment
Students will be able to don and use an immersion suit and demonstrate use of other lifesaving equipment.

Perform life-saving activities in compliance with STCW
Students will be able to jump safely from a height into water, right an inverted life-raft while wearing a lifejacket, swim with and without a lifejacket, and keep afloat.

Lead and manage others in emergency situations
Students will be equipped to manage and direct other persons on board a vessel to perform lifesaving activities safely and effectively.
What You're Signing Up For
This course is designed for individuals who already hold an STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boat certificate and need to refresh their knowledge and skills. It covers practical lifesaving activities such as donning immersion suits, righting life-rafts, and managing crew safety in emergencies. The training meets international maritime regulations and is delivered over two days at the Nelson campus.

- Donning and using an immersion suit
- Safe water entry from height
- Righting an inverted life-raft while wearing a lifejacket
- Swimming with a lifejacket
- Keeping afloat without a lifejacket
- Leadership and direction of others in lifesaving activities
- Refresher training per STCW standards
- Managing onboard emergencies
- Practical drills in survival craft and rescue boat operations
What you need to know first
Current medical examination certificate issued by an approved General Practitioner (e.g., Seafarers Medical)
Evidence of an STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (other than Fast Rescue Boats) Certificate
Record of on-board training, drills and experience, or equivalent documentation proving compliance with STCW code Section A-VI/2-1 and A-VI/1-1 in the preceding five years
