Minimize risk of fire onboard
Understand the fire triangle/elements of fire and explosion, recognize types and sources of ignition, and identify fire hazards and spread mechanisms to minimise fire risks on vessels.

Operate fire and smoke detection and alarm systems
Demonstrate knowledge of fire and smoke detection systems and alarms present on vessels.

Classify and use extinguishing agents effectively
Identify extinguishing agents, classify types of fires, and locate appropriate firefighting equipment on board.
What You're Signing Up For
The FFT311 STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting course equips students with essential skills and knowledge to assess, prevent, and respond to fire risks on board vessels. Covering risk assessment, use of firefighting equipment, emergency procedures, and teamwork, the course is aligned to the amended provisions of Regulation VI/I (Section A-VI/1-2) of the International convention on Standards of Training Certification and Watch-keeping for Seafarers (STCW) 1978 as amended. Graduates attain an STCW Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting Certificate recognized in international maritime operations.
Course Content
- Fire Prevention On Board A Vessel
- Site and Risk Assessment On Board A Vessel
- Extinguishing Fire On Board A Vessel
- Use of portable fire extinguishers (Water, foam, powder, fog, spray nozzles)
- Protective clothing and life support equipment, including self-contained breathing apparatus
- Procedures during fire emergencies including limiting the spread of fire
- Teamwork in emergency fire situations
- Enclosed space and high-expansion foam entry
What you need to know first
Be physically fit and capable of participating in the practical training component
Provide a Medical Certificate issued by a General Practitioner, or a Seafarers Medical Certificate or equivalent
