What You're Signing Up For
This refresher course is designed for those holding the STCW Advanced Fire Fighting qualification. It meets the requirements of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) and refreshes both theory and practical skills in advanced fire fighting techniques. It is suitable for Masters, Mates, Deck/Marine Engineer Officers, and Able Seafarers. Upon completion, students will receive refreshed certification in both Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting and Advanced Fire Fighting (STCW).
Course Content
- Using various types of portable extinguishers
- Extinguishing electrical, oil, or propane fires
- Extinguishing extensive fires using jet and spray nozzles
- Fighting fire in smoke-filled enclosed spaces with breathing apparatus
- Using fog applicator, spray nozzles, dry chemical, or foam to extinguish oil fires
- Application of high expansion foam for shipboard fire fighting
- Fire extinguishing in simulated accommodation/engine room situations
- Evaluation of water use for fire extinguishing and its effect on ship stability
- Fire fighting involving dangerous goods
- STCW Code provisions: Section A-VI/3 and A-VI/1-2
What you need to know first
Current medical examination certificate issued by an approved General Practitioner (Seafarers Medical or equivalent)
Evidence of an STCW Advanced Fire Fighting certificate
Documentation (log of onboard training, drills, record of experience, or company letter) showing that Advanced Fire Fighting competence has been maintained within the last five years
