What You're Signing Up For

This programme will give you the skills you need to apply for registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) as an Enrolled Nurse. You will gain nursing knowledge, social sciences understanding, and practical clinical experience. The program involves blended delivery including face-to-face teaching, online learning, simulation, and placements. Graduates must pass the NCNZ registration exam to work as Enrolled Nurses. The diploma offers pathways into bachelor-level nursing and other health degrees. The course is delivered on campus at Dunedin with intake in February. Clinical placements may require travel and additional costs. Entry requires academic, literacy, numeracy, first aid certification, interviews, referees, and police checks for safety to work with vulnerable populations.

  • Applied Structure and Function of the Human Body (Level 4, 15 credits)
  • Applied Social Science for Enrolled Nurses (Level 4, 15 credits)
  • Clinical Skills for Enrolled Nursing (Level 4, 15 credits)
  • Foundations for Enrolled Nursing Practice (Level 4, 30 credits)
  • Enrolled Nursing Practice: Rehabilitation and Community (Level 5, 30 credits)
  • Enrolled Nursing Practice: Acute Care (Level 5, 30 credits)
  • Enrolled Nursing Practice: Mental Health and Addictions (Level 5, 30 credits)

What you need to know first

NCEA Level 2 including 12 credits in Level 1 Mathematics

Literacy and numeracy competency through study, work or experience

Competent computer skills

Level 2 Comprehensive First Aid Certificate (valid for semester one)

Health declaration form

Two referee reports

Police check consent and clearance

English language proficiency (NZ University Entrance, IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.5, or OET C+)
