What You're Signing Up For

The New Zealand Diploma in Enrolled Nursing (Level 5) prepares students to meet the Enrolled Nurse registration requirements of the Nursing Council of New Zealand. The programme blends e-learning, face-to-face teaching, and extensive clinical placements, covering core areas of nursing practice. Graduates will be eligible to apply for the national nursing exam to become a registered Enrolled Nurse, capable of delivering care across various healthcare settings under the direction and delegation of Registered Nurses.

  • Foundations for Enrolled Nursing Practice (160 clinical hours)
  • EN Practice: Acute Care (180 clinical hours)
  • EN Practice: Mental Health and Addictions (180 clinical hours)
  • EN Practice: Rehab and Community (180 clinical hours)
  • Health assessment and planning
  • Cultural safety and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles
  • Professional standards and ethical practice
  • Interpersonal communication and team collaboration
  • Clinical placements (minimum 700 hours across multiple settings)

What you need to know first

At least 16 years old at programme commencement

NCEA Level 2 including 12 credits in Level 1 Mathematics or New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 3)

Ability to read, write, and communicate in English at a basic level

IELTS academic score of 6.5 with no band score lower than 6.5 (if English is not first language)

Police vetting clearance

Suitable physical and mental health

Current First Aid Certificate

Immunisation/vaccination requirements for clinical placement
