What You're Signing Up For

This programme helps students develop the academic and strategic thinking skills needed for success in diploma and degree-level Nursing and Health programmes. Learners will enhance their research, literacy, numeracy, and independent study skills, enabling them to become self-directed and strategic learners who are well equipped for tertiary health-related education.

Course Content

  • Locating, selecting, and analysing relevant information from various sources
  • Working independently and collaboratively on academic tasks
  • Constructing reasoned, researched arguments using appropriate media
  • Developing and critiquing a study and career plan with long-term goals
  • Participation in local workshops and use of NorthTec facilities (computers, library, student support)

What you need to know first

Be at least 16 years old at the time the programme commences

Be able to read, write, and communicate in English at a basic level

Be physically able to complete the programme-specific outcomes

For non-native English speakers: IELTS score of 5.5 with no band lower than 5, or international equivalence

AND ONE OF: 40 credits NCEA Level 2, including 10 Level 1 Literacy and 10 Level 1 Mathematics credits; or successful completion of NZ Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 3); or demonstrated skills for tertiary study through prior study, work or life experience
