What You're Signing Up For
The Bachelor of Health Science (Nursing) at AUT prepares students for a career as a Registered Nurse. The programme covers core nursing and health science topics, emphasising both theoretical understanding and practical clinical experience. Students complete 1,200 hours of clinical placements in a variety of healthcare settings, gaining hands-on experience in acute, primary, community, and mental health care. The curriculum spans anatomy, physiology, communication, public health, Māori health, pharmacology, research, ethics, mental health, and complex care. Upon graduation and successful completion of the Nursing Council of New Zealand’s State Examination, students are eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse.

What you need to know first
University Entrance or equivalent
Capability of meeting Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act (HPCA Act) and Children’s Act 2014 requirements, including police clearance
Preference for one subject from Art History, Classical Studies, Drama, English, Geography, Health Education, History, Media Studies, Social Studies, Te Reo Māori, or Te Reo Rangatira; and one from Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Space Science, Physics, Science, Calculus, Mathematics, Statistics
IELTS (Academic) 6.5 overall with all bands 6.5+ for those with English as a second or other language who have not completed three years of secondary schooling in NZ
