What You're Signing Up For

The New Zealand Certificate in Study and Employment Pathways (Level 4) at NMIT is a foundational programme aimed at giving students the core skills and confidence they need for further study or career advancement. Learners develop effective study techniques, academic writing, and communication abilities in a supportive environment. Students choose from two pathway options: a Hauora (Health) stream preparing for health-related degrees, or a Te Hāpai Hāpori (Counselling and Social Work) stream leading towards social work and counselling qualifications. The curriculum includes compulsory tertiary study and communication papers, and pathway-specific introductory courses, enabling graduates to progress to further tertiary programmes or employment with a strong base of skills.

What you need to know first

40 credits NCEA Level 2 across four subjects, including 10 credits Literacy at Level 2 or above, and 10 credits Numeracy at Level 1 or above;

or New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 3);

or equivalent qualification or international assessment.

Alternative entry: Skills for tertiary study gained through study, work and/or life experience (may include Recognition of Prior Learning).

If English is not first language: IELTS 5.5 Academic (no lower than 5.0 in any subtest) or equivalent.
