What You're Signing Up For

The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) is a six-year undergraduate degree from the University of Auckland designed to prepare graduates for a vocation in medicine. Accredited by the Australian Medical Council and the Medical Council of New Zealand, the programme provides a blend of medical, clinical, and research training, including learning in hospital and community environments. Admission is competitive, with pathways for both first-year university and graduate applicants. Upon completion, graduates are eligible to apply for provisional medical registration in New Zealand.

Course Content

  • Year One (Part I) via either Bachelor of Health Sciences or Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science pathway (foundation health and bioscience courses)
  • Core medical and health sciences courses in Year Two
  • Medical Humanities and human health/illness focus in Year Three
  • Hospital and community-based clinical rotations in Years Four, Five, and Six
  • Compulsory courses such as Introduction to Health Systems, Social Determinants of Health, Population Health, Behaviour, Health and Development, Biology for Biomedical Science: Cellular Processes, Chemistry of the Living World, Medical Humanities, MBChB parts II-VI
  • General Education and Academic English Language Requirement

UCAT ANZ (University Clinical Aptitude Test for Australia and New Zealand) required
