Understand cardiovascular anatomy and physiology
Gain a foundational understanding of cardiac muscle structure, haemodynamics, and how these relate to clinical scenarios.

Interpret 3 lead ECGs
Apply the 5-step method to recognise rhythms and understand wave formation on a 3 lead ECG.

Interpret 12 lead ECGs
Use a systematic 6-step process to interpret 12 lead ECGs, recognise cardiac axis, specific block patterns, and key pathological changes.

The Prehospital Cardiology online short course is delivered 100% online and provides in-depth, clinically relevant knowledge on cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, ECG interpretation, acute coronary syndromes, dysrhythmias, and diverse cardiac conditions. Through over 20 multimedia presentations with quizzes, the course is suitable for health professionals needing foundational or refresher training in cardiology as applied in emergency or prehospital settings. The programme is flexible, and open to domestic and international students.
Course Content
- Cardiovascular anatomy and physiology
- 3 Lead ECG interpretation (wave formation, rhythm recognition, 5-step interpretation)
- 12 Lead ECG interpretation (history, layout, 6-step method, bundle branch blocks, hypertrophy, cardiac axis, ischaemia, injury, infarct)
- Acute Coronary Syndrome, STEMIs and STEMI mimics
- Pathology, management of brady and tachy dysrhythmias
- Cardiac conditions (congenital abnormalities, heart failure, electrolyte imbalances, digoxin toxicity, heart sounds and murmurs)
