AUT's Bachelor of Communication Studies prepares graduates for communications careers in a range of industries. Students have access to industry-standard media facilities and gain workplace experience before graduating. The flexible degree structure allows specialization in majors such as Journalism, Advertising, Digital Communication, Screen Production, Radio, and Public Relations, and the opportunity to pursue minors or a second major either within communication studies or from other disciplines.

Course Content

  • First-year core courses covering media world and communication theories
  • Specialization in a major: Advertising and Brand Creativity, Digital Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Radio and Audio Media, or Screen Production
  • 120 points core courses, 120 points major, 120 points flexi-component (minors, second major, or electives)
  • Optional minors include: Communication for Social Change, Media and Power, Multi-Camera Production, Professional Performance Communication, and others
  • Practical experience in media centre, radio, TV studio, and PR agency
  • Industry placements/workplace experience
