Core skills this course teaches

Perform advanced diagnostic, repair, and overhaul of bicycle systems
Carry out diagnostic procedures, repair, and/or overhaul a wide range of bicycle components and systems under broad guidance, and inspect frames and forks.

Work safely and efficiently in a professional workshop
Exhibit professionalism and adhere to safety protocols while working efficiently in a bicycle workshop.

Apply advanced mechanical techniques
Utilise advanced skills including wheel building, suspension servicing, and e-bike diagnostics.

This Level 4 programme builds on existing knowledge in bicycle servicing, teaching advanced techniques such as wheel building, suspension servicing, electronic shifting, e-bike diagnostics, and comprehensive repairs. It equips students with the expertise needed for senior workshop roles or specialist positions in the bicycle industry, delivered through flexible online, work-based, and block course learning.

- Diagnosis, overhaul, and repair of bicycle components and systems (frames, steering, braking, drive train, wheels, suspension)
- Product-specific mechanical techniques and processes
- Bike fitting: design, select, fit, and tune bicycles to meet rider requirements
- Communication in a workshop environment
- 160-180 hours of industry work-based learning
What you need to know first
Completion of New Zealand Certificate in Bicycle Servicing (Level 3) OR
Previous experience in the bicycle industry
For international students: Academic IELTS 5.5 (no band lower than 5.0) or equivalent
