  • Good work habits and safe work practices in the automotive industry
  • Knowledge of automotive lubricants
  • Terminology used in the motor industry
  • Remove and refit road wheels on a vehicle
  • Remove and replace a lamp on a motor vehicle
  • Prepare a vehicle or machine for use, and shutdown after use
  • Knowledge of vehicle documentation and primary systems of a vehicle
  • Motor industry engineering tasks
  • Tools and equipment used in the motor industry
  • Disassembling and reassembling a four-stroke multi-cylinder engine
  • Interchanging and balancing wheels
  • Knowledge of new and emerging technology in the motor industry
  • Basic tuning on a four-stroke petrol engine
  • Perform general servicing checks on a motor vehicle
  • Select and use hand tools and workshop equipment
  • Literacy
  • Numeracy

What you need to know first

Domestic learners only

Students must be between 16 and 24 years of age

Students should not have previously attained NCEA Level 2

Sufficient English language competence (assessed at enrolment)
