What You're Signing Up For

The Graduate Diploma in Law (GradDipLaw) allows law graduates from New Zealand and overseas to further enhance their legal knowledge and skills. Students may focus on an area of specialisation according to personal interest or professional requirements, undertake professional development, and meet CPD requirements of the New Zealand Law Society. The diploma provides opportunity for overseas practitioners to work towards recognition by the NZ Council of Legal Education.

Course Content

  • 120 points required, typically over 1 year full-time or part-time equivalent
  • Courses drawn from LLB Part II, III, and IV (undergraduate law)
  • At least 75 points must be from LLB Part III and IV
  • Option to include up to 30 points from Master of Laws courses (with approval)
  • LAW 700 (Legal Research Methodology) is required if taking Master of Laws courses
  • Up to 30 points may be from other suitable courses within the university with approval
