This course is designed for individuals who need to renew their New Zealand immigration adviser licence after a lapse of 12 months or more. The programme revisits content from the Graduate Diploma in New Zealand Immigration Advice, with a focus on current immigration law and policies, ethical responsibilities, and the code of conduct. Successful participants receive an Achievement Record, confirming completion required for the Immigration Advisers Authority, though no academic credit is awarded.

Course Content

  • Regulatory Framework: Honest, ethical, diligent, and respectful practice; licensing regime; Immigration Advisers Licensing Act 2007; functions of regulatory authorities; professional code of conduct; competency standards; complaints and disciplinary procedures; continuing professional development; professional English standards.
  • Appropriate Advice: Temporary entry categories, residence entry categories, compliance categories.
  • Immigration Law and Instructions: Review of Immigration Advisers Licensing Act 2007, Immigration Act 2009, Privacy Act 1993, Official Information Act 1982, Ombudsmen Act 1975; New Zealand immigration visa systems; eligibility assessments and mandatory documents; decision making; INZ Operational Manual; international legal instruments and obligations.
