This flexible, fully online diploma provides understanding of the New Zealand legal system, enabling you to assist in the transfer of land ownership, administer estates, and prepare and file court documents. Cross-crediting towards a Diploma in Conveyancing is available. This qualification is also an excellent foundation for those considering a law degree.

- New Zealand Legal System: Introduction to the constitution, function of law, types of law, courts, property, and tort
- Law Office Practice: Law office procedures, trust accounting
- Professional Practice: Professional standards and responsibilities, ethical decision-making
- Contract Law: Elements of valid contracts, formation, discharge, remedies
- Land Law: Procedures for transferring land (conveyancing)
- Business Law: Contract, insurance, consumer law, personal securities, commercial leases, buying/selling a business, company law
- Estates Law: Administration of deceased persons’ property (estate)
- Litigation Law: Debt collection, bankruptcy, family law, legal aid, District and High Court procedures
What you need to know first
Students under 20: NCEA Level 2 with passes in English/Te Reo Māori or equivalent, including 10 Level 2 numeracy credits and at least 42 credits (including 10 reading and writing) at Level 3
Or: Evidence of ability to complete academic requirements
Special admission may be available for students over 20 or those who do not meet standard requirements, subject to approval
Completing a short information questionnaire as part of the application
Access to a computer with high-speed internet, microphone/headset, webcam, latest Google Chrome, and Microsoft Word
