What You're Signing Up For
The New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 1) is aimed at learners with very little English proficiency who wish to build foundational English skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Through face-to-face, independent, and online learning, students acquire appropriate communication skills to use and understand simple English in familiar, everyday situations. The programme is aligned with CEFR A2 and prepares students for pathway study, such as NZCEL Level 2.
Course Content
- Listening (LANG110): Understanding simple spoken English in familiar contexts
- Speaking (LANG111): Using basic spoken English in everyday situations
- Reading (LANG112): Understanding simple written English
- Writing (LANG113): Producing basic written English
What you need to know first
Applicants must be 16 years or older.
Demonstrate appropriate language proficiency as determined by the Centre for Languages Placement Test.
Achieved NZCEL (Foundation) (Level 1).
Selection interview and placement test required.
Demonstrate a reasonable chance of success in the programme.
