What You're Signing Up For
This part-time programme is designed to progress learners with a basic understanding of te reo Māori to a foundational level, enabling effective communication in everyday and familiar Māori environments. Graduates develop skills to confidently contribute to whānau, hapū, iwi, and Māori organisations, with practical application for support roles in industries such as tourism, administration, radio, or kōhanga reo settings.
Course Content
- Mana Tangata Rua: Te reo Māori vocabulary, grammar, whakapapa for describing people in own hapū
- Mana Whenua Rua: Expressing connections to land, environment, significant people, and places using foundation te reo Māori
- Mana Reo Rua: Applying technical knowledge in selected contexts, appreciating te reo as cultural expression
- Mana Ao Tūroa Toru: Use of greetings, phrases, vocabulary, and grammar to describe and discuss everyday events
What you need to know first
New Zealand Certificate in Te Reo (Rumaki Reo Rua) (Level 1) or equivalent qualification, or evidence of Level 1 Reo skills
Suitable for school leavers. Recommended: NCEA Level 1-3 reo Māori
