What You're Signing Up For

The Diploma in Languages (DipLang) at the University of Auckland allows you to study for a recognised qualification in one or two foreign languages, either as a standalone programme or alongside another degree. The programme is flexible and can be completed part-time, tailored to fit your needs. With courses available for beginners and those with prior knowledge, DipLang not only promotes language proficiency but also cultural awareness, benefiting careers in education, business, tourism, media, and more. The programme's structure ensures a deepening level of study, culminating in advanced language coursework.

Course Content

  • Language study (choose from Chinese, Cook Islands Maori, Egyptian (Ancient History), French, German, Greek (Ancient), Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Māori, Samoan, Spanish, Tongan)
  • Eight 15-point language courses (totaling 120 points)
  • At least half of the courses must be advanced, including two Stage III courses
  • Language competence assessment upon enrolment
  • General Education course requirement for most students
  • Academic English Language Requirement
