What You're Signing Up For

Te Pōkaitahi Reo (Rumaki, Reo Rua) (Te Kaupae 3) is designed to build skills and knowledge in te reo Māori, enabling participants to communicate with some independence and confidence in a variety of Māori and general environments. The programme supports the appreciation and development of te reo Māori, covering language for whānau, marae, workplace, and social settings, with a blend of class time, self-directed study, and noho marae experiences.

Course Content

  • Facilitating hui whakatau, including leading karakia and presentations
  • Creating literature illustrating connections to land, environment, history, and people
  • Using whakataukī and kīwaha appropriately
  • Planning for and participating in pōwhiri
  • Extending foundation level skills in te reo Māori, both written and spoken
  • Noho marae experiences

What you need to know first

Te Reo Rangatira at NCEA Level 1 or equivalent

OR Te Pōkaitahi Reo (Reo Rua) (Te Kaupae 2) or equivalent

OR by interview/assessment with programme lecturer and/or Academic Portfolio Manager
