What You're Signing Up For

The New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 4) (Academic) at UCOL supports learners to develop independent and effective communication skills for familiar and some less familiar situations with fluency and flexibility, preparing them for academic study at diploma or degree level. The qualification is at a level comparable to CEFR B2 and features blended delivery, combining in-person and online learning. Students build their reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities to confidently participate in everyday, workplace, and academic contexts.

Course Content

  • Reading Level 4: Understand extended or complex texts (fiction and non-fiction) on familiar topics.
  • Writing Level 4: Write coherent texts appropriate to audience and purpose, with few errors, for a variety of purposes.
  • Listening Level 4: Identify main ideas and key details in extended speech in a range of familiar contexts.
  • Speaking Level 4: Speak fluently and with elaboration on a range of familiar topics.

New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 3) (Applied) OR evidence of equivalent skills and knowledge (e.g., IELTS 5.5 single test form)
