Te Pōkaitahi Reo (Reo Rua) (Kaupae 1) is a New Zealand Certificate program designed for those just starting to learn te reo Māori. The course offers a welcoming, supportive environment and covers basic language skills, including pronunciation, greetings, self-introduction, and key vocabulary. Learners participate in immersive noho wānanga (learning retreats), practicing language in real-life contexts and engaging with Māori cultural practices. Graduates develop a sound foundation in te reo Māori and an emerging understanding of Te Ao Māori, suitable for application in families, communities, and the workplace.
