What You're Signing Up For

The New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Academic) (Level 4) prepares students to effectively participate in further academic study and pursue career opportunities where a moderate proficiency in English is required. The programme develops the ability to understand and produce moderately complex academic texts, participate in group discussions, and make presentations. Students also build critical interpersonal and intercultural communication skills for studying and working in Aotearoa New Zealand.

  • Academic reading and writing skills: Read and understand moderately complex academic texts, write crafted texts using researched material.
  • Applied academic reading and writing: Read and understand moderately complex written academic texts, write texts under test conditions.
  • Notetaking and presentations: Listen to and comprehend moderately complex oral academic texts, make oral presentations.
  • Academic discussions: Participate effectively in group academic discussions.

What you need to know first

New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 3) (Applied); OR

Overall IELTS (Academic) score of 5.5; OR

A level comparable to CEFR low B2.
