Te Pōkaitahi Reo Māori (Reo Rua) (Kaupae 2) is aimed at students seeking to begin or improve their te reo Māori skills in a safe and supportive environment. The programme provides the language skills required to communicate with minimal support in familiar, everyday situations and comfortable Māori environments. Successful completion enables students to progress to higher level te reo Māori study.

  • Beginner-level te reo Māori
  • Māori and marae activities (including noho marae stays)
  • Class-based interactive activities
  • Cultural protocols and practices
  • Basic reading, writing, listening, and speaking in te reo Māori

What you need to know first

Open entry; no formal qualifications required.

Applicants must be aged 16 or over.

Reasonable level of reading ability required to undertake the programme.

Personal interview may be required.
