The Doctor of Health Science at AUT enables experienced health professionals to pursue practice-based research relevant to their workplace. The program uniquely combines taught doctoral-level courses with a significant research thesis, facilitating the exploration of specialist topics and contribution to the field. The curriculum is designed to challenge, develop research capabilities, and strengthen career prospects with close guidance from AUT's world-class researchers. Students complete three practice-focused courses before undertaking a research thesis, all while building collaborative relationships across the health system. - Practice and Philosophies (HEAL911): Exploring philosophical approaches and professional practice frameworks
- Research Practice and Methodology (HEAL912): Research methods, design, and practice in health science
- Doctoral Thesis in Health Science (HEALX99): Conducting and writing a substantial original research project in health science practice

Master’s degree with honours OR Bachelor’s degree with honours (equivalent to 4 years of study) in a relevant health field, with first or second class (first division) honours
