Discuss essential components of midwifery care
Discuss essential components of antenatal, labour, birth, and postnatal care using midwifery decision points and evidence for practice, including screening options and routine testing for women and identifying deviation from the norm.

Provide evidence-informed care
Identify and provide evidence-informed care tailored to the woman's needs during pregnancy, labour, birth, and postnatal period.

Understand normal physiological and psychological adaptation
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of normal physiological and psychological adaptation in pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period.
What You're Signing Up For
This integrated short course is designed for qualified midwives who have not practiced for 5-10 years and need to update their theoretical knowledge of pregnancy, physiological birth, and the postnatal period, or for current New Zealand midwives seeking to refresh their knowledge. Approved by the Midwifery Council of New Zealand and comprising 100 learning hours, the course covers competencies required for entry to the Register of Midwives and involves completion within 26 weeks from enrolment. Assessment is through an online exam.

- Physiological and psychological adaptation in pregnancy, birth, and postnatal period
- Antenatal, labour, birth, and postnatal care (midwifery decision points, evidence for practice, screening options, and routine testing)
- Identifying and providing evidence-informed care for women during pregnancy, labour, birth, and postnatal period
- Midwife's role in professional standards, competencies, and legal issues
What you need to know first
Qualified midwife who has not practiced for 5-10 years
OR New Zealand midwife with an Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) wishing to update knowledge
